In India, the Chambers of Commerce, Export Promotion Councils and various Trade Associations, which have been authorized by the Government, issue the Certificate of Origin. The Central Silk Board, The Coir Board, Textile Committee are also authorized to issue such certificates for the products under their purview. This certificate has to be dully legalised by presenting it to the Consul of the importing country stationed in the exporting country.
Role of IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry:
IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry is one such Chamber of Commerce, authorised by the Government of India, to issue the Certificate of Origin (Non Preferential) to Exporters, since 1928.
It has a dedicated Department for issuing the Certificate of Origin and attestation of export related documents along with issuing of Visa Recommendation Letters to the Member of IMC for Commercial visit purpose. Within one hour exporter can avail the Certificate of Origin after submitting relevant documents.
For availing the Certificate of Origin (Non Preferential) from IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it is mandatory that, every exporter has to register their Company/Firm with IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Registration Procedure:
- Permanent Registration: Exporters are required to submit Indemnity Bond on Rs.200/- Non-Judicial Stamp Paper issued by the Government of India. A Specimen of Indemnity Bond i. e. Exhibit 2 is available with department in-charge. After submitting this Indemnity Bond IMC will register their Company and issue Permanent IMC Code No., which should be used in future for transaction with IMC. Registration Fees of Rs. 1000/- for non-member of IMC (w.e.f. 1st August 2012) .
- After Registration of the company, Exporters will have to collect stationery of Certificate of Origin and submit it along with the Commercial Invoice, Packing list and Shipment proof i.e. Bill of Lading / Airway Bill / Lorry Receipt etc. which has to be submitted for Chambers' record.

IMC introduced Revolving Credit Facility for Exporters and CHA's.
In this facility, IMC shall open a revolving ledger account of the Exporter / CHA. The Exporter / CHA may give an initial amount of Rs. 5,000/- as deposit to the Chamber. Thereafter, whenever documents are brought for attestation, the charges will be automatically debited from the Exporter/CHA's ledger. A receipt to this effect would be generated to give the balance credit available.
Exporter / CHA can pay deposit amount by Cash/Cheque/DD/RTGS, in favour of IMC Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with the application on their company letterhead.

Services - Visa Recommendation Letter
IMC also issues Visa Recommendation Letter for overseas visit on Commercial purpose after 1 year of membership with IMC. For getting Visa Recommendation Letter the application required on Company's Letterhead in Original with details like Name, Designation, Passport No., Purpose of Visit, Name of the Country and IMC's letter addressed to Consulate / Embassy etc. alongwith Passport / Invitation copy.
